Happy –hard to make it here–Spring!! Ready for all the new activities? Take a look~~
April’s meeting was a very enjoyable meeting with Don Andrews conducting a demo of his very loose approach to landscape painting. Here is Don’s finished painting from that demo:
Our guest artist, Ellen Diederich, will be doing the demonstration. Ellen sent this message:
“My demonstration will be on Painting Powerful Paintings with Colorful Darks. This is based on my new workshop where we focus on values, open and closed shapes and selecting dominant value and color groups for your paintings. Several watercolor techniques will be used and discussed to create the demonstration painting. I will be using the staining pigments. In my actual workshop, students will practice working with these design factors as they uncover the power of the staining pigments. As technical as this all sounds, I believe this will be a fun (experience)and hopefully everyone will be tempted to give up any fear of the darks.” See and example of her work below ( Click on it to enlarge):

I need this information by April 26th.We will hang the show on May 2nd between 4:00 and 5:00. We will be taking it down on May 31st between 4:00 and 5:00. Please make arrangements to deliver and pick up your painting. We will be charging a $5.00 participation fee which must be paid before your painting is hung. This is a wonderful place to display our paintings and we hope you plan to take advantage of it. The gift shop does take a 15% commission so keep that in mind when pricing your painting. *The Don Andrews Workshop was held the first week of April. It was truly and learning experience with Don encouraging participants to “practice” very different approaches. He emphasized loose approaches, granular application techniques, how to paint and place figures into paintings, how to be an artist rather than a “reporter” of images, his approach to color mixing and harmony. Below are some images from that workshop (click to enlarge):
