Ahhhh!! -Summertime is here!  As I inspect my roses for aphids and other critters, I am always inspired when a dragonfly goes by as it waffles across bushes and leaves then flies go-lightly keeping to it’s own reason for being.  Susan’s painting below makes me think of those times…..and so I go on enjoying my own reason for being.

“Dragonfly” Susan-Jensen Cekalla                                                               Watercolor on Masa paper

Here’s what’s going on~~~~

Congratulations Marilyn!!

“Marilyn Clement won first place in the advanced watercolor category of Artists of MN juried Spring Show in Duluth May 20, 2017.  “Old Mill” was painted after a recent visit to Sedona AZ.”

In followup to Judy Fawcett’s  demo at our Monday,
May 8th Meeting , Judy showed us a relatively easy way to think about putting people  forms into paintings.   If you’re like me, you lost your paper and now want to review her approach so here you go. She uses letters to help create these forms.

It’s March and let’s hope for the Luck o’ the Irish” with all of our events coming up!

~Announcements~

**BIG NEWS:  The City of St. Cloud has updated their exhibit policies.  Now each artist will need to sign off on a Memo of Understanding going forward on each exhibit.  This MUST be done when you drop off your painting.  If you are giving your work to another artist to bring you  also must contact Yvonne Schrank and either pick up an MOU form from her or have her email it to you and you can print it and get it back to her.  The galleries are really working on upgrading their display policies and we likely will see this at Centra Care, the St. Cloud Hospital, and the Public Libraries in the near future.  Be sure to see the information regarding pertinent shows below.

**The March Newsletter is now under the Newsletter tab.  There is a lot of detailed information about upcoming events in there.

“For as long as I can remember, I have been a fascinated spectator of human behavior – the quintessential people watcher. I naturally seek the unique character in everyone I encounter. Indeed, I consider my paintings to be records of expression and emotion, rather than portraits. Often, as I observe someone in his or her everyday environment, I am rewarded with a moment when a gesture or expression combines with the play of light and shadow.

A contemplative smile, hands cradling a book or carefully tying a shoe, a shadow cast by a pair of wire-rimmed glasses – and there occurs a pivotal instant when a story appears.

My paintings are an attempt to compose and thoughtfully record the nuances that fixed these moments, these stories, in my mind.”

Matisse expresses the notion superbly:  “I do not literally paint that table, but the emotion it produces upon me.”
