Welcome to Susan Jensen-Cekalla as our new Vice-President.  Her work will be to coordinate demonstration artists, coordinate the annual meeting and give her highly valuable input to the future planning and events by CMW.  What a great addition to the board.

More exciting news – the CMW Board had been working hard to plan a fun spring watercolor painting retreat to be held at Linden Hills Center in Little Falls, MN  for Monday – Thursday, May 7-10, 2018.  Depending on the number of attendees the entire room cost would be somewhere in the range of $150-$200 total for 3 days and nights at this beautiful venue.  Food and drink are at your own expense.

Even more exciting is that David Smith would come for one whole day of instruction on Tuesday, May 8th and includes a lunch.   This is at no added expense to 3 day attendees.  Other CMW members may come for the day, depending on space, for a fee of $100 with a sandwich lunch included.

Please visit the Linden Hills website to see all the amenities and the lovely historical housing.  Their website is linden-hill.org – just click on this link to view.

Painting with Wild Abandon with Karen Knutson!

On Monday, November 13th, Karen Knutson will be our demo artist!  She teaches workshops across the United States, traveling to a different state every month!  She holds signature status in many National Watercolor Societies and has won many awards, both locally and nationally.  In December of 2016, Karen was named one of 10 Artists to Watch by the Watercolor Artist Magazine!  Her paintings have been featured in many books.

Karen is excited to demonstrate lots of fun tricks, using acrylicsFor those of you who are watercolorists, please come and see some new tricks.  You may be able to use them in your watercolors as well, OR Karen may sway you over to trying acrylic after all!  She loves the brightness of the colors and the fact that one can layer and build such depth, using acrylics.  You become a bit of an archaeologist as you remove layers later on and make discoveries underneath!  Karen calls this demonstration process, “Painting like Gustav Klimt” because it results in tiny colorful shapes of exciting colors like he did in his paintings.  She will also be sharing many gold special effects like Gustav used also.  Her demonstration will include dropping liquid acrylic on the paper and then scraping it, using a credit card.  The students always LOVE this process!  We will touch on the subject of wire drawing, one of Karen’s favorite things EVER!   Karen states about her use of acrylics, “Don’t get me wrong.  I still enjoy using watercolor too, but I’m a painter first.  I will use whatever media works to produce the effects that I want.  If you struggle with design and composition, I have some tricks up my sleeve for that too!”  To see more of Karen Knutson’s paintings, go to her website, www.karenknutson.com or her blog,
