Happy New Year!!

A new year is marked all over the world as a new beginning.  It’s great that we let ourselves be free of the past in whatever way we wish.  As CMW moves forward into 2017, there are lots of opportunities for growth, connecting and participating in shows.  The 2017 Calendar will be online in the near future.  Meanwhile here are some news items.

CMW Board Changes:
We say goodbye to Linda Addicott who served as Vice President and to Robyn York who served as Treasurer these past years.  They did a wonderful job and worked to further help define  these positions in making them very functional for the CMW Board and members.

Welcome to our new Vice President, Gordon Schrank .  We look forward to his leadership as he lines up our demo speakers and helps plan our workshops – plus keeps the board on track with all of CMW activities.

We also welcome our new Treasurer, Yvonne Schrank.   She will be the financial tracker, organizer of registrations, keeper of CMW assets and assist the board in their fiduciary responsibilities.

Meetings

At the November meeting, Peggy Hall gave a demonstration on mixed media using a variety of materials.  Here is her completed work from that demo. It is titled “Sunflower”.

The December meeting was full of discussion about the November $50 sale with lots of ideas that resulted.  The Board will be taking this up in the coming year.

It was fun to give and receive original Christmas cards from colleagues – a sampling is depicted here.

Yvonne Schrank created a Christmas centerpiece for a drawing and that was won by Donna Jarvae.

President’s Challenge: Kerry Kupferschmidt announced that the President’s Challenge to the membership was “Spring’s the Thing”.  Members are invited to paint an interpretation along that theme and bring it to show at the February 13th meeting.  This is a fun and supportive meeting.  Feel free to ask for input as you wish.

As we head into a busy art and holiday season, here are some happenings.

                                                         CMW MEETINGS

The Monday, October 10th meeting was held at the Paramount Studios.
Susan Fryer Voigt gave an eye opening and delightful demo at this meeting.  She used a mixed media approach with a paper washed with acrylic and then applied watercolor paint over that.   Susan demonstrated her art approach in a “layerist” manner – using a roller and trowels  – no brushes. Her piece below showed how she attained the dimension and texture in her work.  She also used Neutral Tint ,Aquapasto and gouache to really make a difference in making her work outstanding. Here are some pictures of the progress of her work.

Here are some of the other paintings that Susan displayed for those attending.  Note that she has also done work with alcohol inks:

Members attending enjoyed this demo very much:

We also enjoyed Sharon Houg’s Zen Doodle creations-  she very much enjoys this art form especially in black and white.
Here are some of her works:
