With time on his hands and an interest in drawing and painting, Doug joined the Central Minnesota Watercolorists when he moved to St. Cloud in 1991. Through the group’s workshops and help from its members he managed to pick up the skills he needed to become commercially successful.
“It was never my intention to have a second career as an artist,” Lien explains. “But, when Diane Woit, an instructor then teaching a class at the Paramount, told me to “paint what you know”, that’s when I started to be really enthusiastic about painting.”
Doug now does paintings for minor league baseball teams, college football teams, junior hockey leagues and golf courses on a regular basis, as well as private commissions. He has also taught Community Education classes, art for home schoolers and demonstrated at several events.
He’s taken painting workshops from John Salminen, Doug Lew, Raleigh Kinney and Frank Francese among others. Samples of his work can also be found on the site: http://www.mnartists.org
