 **November CMW Meeting
Monday, November 14 at the Paramount Studios – 6 PM
Peggy Hall will be the demonstrator for this meeting.   Here is what she says about her work:
I call myself an “intuitive painter”   — Putting my energy into each brushstroke.  Each painting I create has my unique style and color.   
My diversity can be experienced in the various media I utilize. As an artist I never limit myself.  I am open to exploring new techniques. My goal is that my brushwork will reflect my passion and love for painting. When my painting touches your heart and soul, I know it is truly good.”

CMW currently has an exhibit hanging so stop by and view your colleagues’ work.  The show will end on December 19, 2016

First Holiday Art Sale by CMW members Donna Jarvae and Carol Euerle
To be held:   Friday, December 2nd from 3-8 PM and on Saturday, December 3rd from 10 AM to 3 PM.

*Matting Workshop – November 5, 2016 was given by Robyn York and Bonnie Schwichtenberg who demonstrated and explained mat cutters and their approach.  There were 2 different brands of mat cutters i.e. Logan and Altos shown.  Ten members attended and it was very well received.

 

*Lian Quan Zhen Fall workshop October 24-26, 2016 focus on Chinese Painting. was held at the Paramount Visual Arts Center.  There were 19 attendees in attendance. cmw-lian-zhen-group-oct-2016 It was an enlightening workshop painting on raw or “shuan” paper and on “sized” rice paper.

* Campfire Bay Resort – CMW Paint In – Cushing MN – March 9-12, 2017:  Plan now to come and enjoy distraction-free days of painting to your heart’s content or whatever you want to do — take walks, sit by the lake, take naps, read, watch videos – or do all of them. The Resort accommodates groups and is well setup for great work areas. Network with friends and colleagues.  Open to CMW members.  Sign up at one of the CMW meetings or contact a board member.

 

 * Ted Nuttall 2017 Spring Workshop coming to the Paramount with a focus on painting portraits. This nationally known artist is in high demand so let Derick Segerstrom know of your interest in signing up for this workshop. The fee for CMW members is $450.   1. Meetings
    April’s meeting was a very enjoyable meeting with Don Andrews conducting a demo of his very loose approach to landscape painting.   Here is Don’s finished painting from that demo:

May Meeting -To be held on May 9th at the Paramount Visual Arts Studio 6 PM.
Our guest artist, Ellen Diederich, will be doing the demonstration.  Ellen sent this message:       2016 Ellen Jean Diedrich             
            

“My demonstration will be on Painting Powerful Paintings with Colorful Darks. This is based on my new workshop  where we focus on values, open and closed shapes and selecting dominant value and color groups for your paintings. Several watercolor techniques will be used and discussed to create the demonstration painting. I will be using the staining pigments. In my actual workshop, students will practice  working with these design factors as they uncover the power of the staining pigments. As technical as this all sounds, I believe this will be a fun (experience)and hopefully everyone will be tempted to give up any fear of the darks.”   See and example of her work below ( Click on it to enlarge):

  2.  CMW Shows

*St. Cloud Hospital ShowMay 2-May 31, 2016  Here is information from Robyn York:

“Since the show in February was rescheduled for May I would like you to resubmit your artist information. I need your contact information, frame size, the price (tax included) and the title of the painting. Space is limited so we can only show one painting per artist. I need this information by April 26th.We will hang the show on May 2nd between 4:00 and 5:00. We will be taking it down on May 31st between 4:00 and 5:00. Please make arrangements to deliver and pick up your painting. We will be charging a $5.00 participation fee which must be paid before your painting is hung. This is a wonderful place to display our paintings and we hope you plan to take advantage of it. The gift shop does take a 15% commission so keep that in mind when pricing your painting. We have had sales in previous years.”  Please contact Robyn at robyncmw@gmail.com

*Centracare Plaza $5 fee; 15% Commission – 1 painting per artist.

*Art in the Garden – Tenth Annual Art Fair in the Gardens will be held on Thursday, July 21, 2016 from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm

3.  Events

*The Don Andrews Workshop was held the first week of April.  It was truly and learning experience with Don encouraging participants to “practice” very different approaches.  He emphasized loose approaches, granular application techniques, how to paint and place figures into paintings, how to be an artist rather than a “reporter” of images,  his approach to color mixing and harmony.  Below are some images from that workshop (click to enlarge):

* Minnesota State Fair – There is a great opportunity for artists to have their work viewed at this state level.  Registration is required. *Christian Arts Festival, Eagan, MN:We are about a month away from the March 4 deadline for submitting art to this year’s Christian Arts Festival. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call or email me and I can help you out. *CMW Artists will be heading to Campfire Bay Resort, Cushing MN for a Paint-in the weekend of March 10-13.  If you’re in the area, feel free to stop by and visit.  If you would like to  join the group for a day of painting, you are most welcome and the fee for the day will be only $15.
