President’s Message, January 2025

It’s a New Year!

It is a time of reflection, remembrance of things past, and, at the same time, we look forward, usually with hopes and resolutions for the new year.

Holiday Meeting

Our Holiday Meeting in December was a fun time with a Finger Lickin’ Chicken dinner and our traditional holiday card exchange. The cards were beautiful and inspirational. Some pix have been posted to Facebook. Most of us have a collection of these small treasures. Whenever I review mine at this time of the year, they bring to mind the person who painted the card. Some of those people are no longer with us, but their card brings them to mind.

Upcoming Meeting Schedules

No meeting in January. Arlette has just sent out our January calendar, which summarizes events for 2025. We have many opportunities to share our love of watercolor: shows, demos, retreats and workshops. There is also an Art Crawl Friday, Jan., 24th.

Next up is our February 10th meeting, traditionally known as “Easel Night,” and “The President’s Challenge.”

The President’s Challenge -
Out my Window/Out my Door

You are invited to bring a painting, in response to the theme—or any other work—to share with the group. What do you see out your window/out your door? And what do you see on the far horizon? (Interpret this however you wish.) You can invite helpful critiques from those present if you wish and enjoy the sharing among members.

In addition, Linda Addicott will direct a group painting activity, with the theme in mind. If you wish to participate, bring a small palette and 3 brushes.

2025 Dues

Reminder: Dues for 2025 are due. $30. Contact our Treasurer, Ralph Carpenter, to let him know you want to keep your membership current. ([email protected]) You can bring your payment to the February meeting.

New President/Retiring President

I am glad to report that January brought a peaceful transition of power. Many thanks for her service to retiring President, Diane Runberg, who will now have more time to paint! Susan Jensen-Cekalla is sending you this first President’s Monthly Message and asking for your patience as she tries to get up to speed on all the responsibilities of the Presidency. It feels overwhelming, but it is all for the greater good of Central MN Watercolorists, and all the friendship and enjoyment we share because of the work we put into our organization.

Looking forward

See you at our next meeting, Mon., Feb. 10 at the Paramount.
